To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,
I hope this update finds you well and gearing up for Halloween - the energy level is pretty high around our household, as I'm sure it is around yours. We are also rebounding from School Picture Day on Thursday, another high energy event for our students (btw, the kids looked great!). I think everyone is going to sleep really well on Sunday evening (especially us parents!)
To start, I want to thank parents who drop off their children for getting students to school before our 8:55 am start of the school day. More of our students are here on time each day, which just allows us more instructional time for everyone. One note - please do not get out of your car if you are stopped anywhere in our drop-off zone; if you need to park and get out of your vehicle, please park in the parking lot closest to Route 2. There should be plenty of parking spaces at this time of day.
New York State has begun releasing information related to the 2020-2021 NYS 3-8 testing. This means we should be receiving individual student data, which we will share with parents as soon as we can. Results from English Language Arts (ELA), math and, for 4th grade students only, science, will be shared if your child participated in these assessments.
Parent conferences are now being scheduled - we will have two half-days (November 18th and December 1st) for a majority of these conferences. We will begin dismissing students at 11:25 am, with our buses leaving no later than 11:40 am. Teachers will be reaching out to households to set up virtual conferences, which will be between 15 or 20 minutes in length at the most. While I'm in calendar mode, don't forget that Veteran's Day will be on Thursday, November 11th this year. There will be no school on this day.
Please take advantage of the wonderful community activities planned for this Halloween weekend; this is definitely a weekend for families.
Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue
