To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope the update finds you well and staying warm.  Dr. Maloney, our Superintendent, will be sending out revised COVID-19 information via email to the school community shortly to help clarify our guidelines and protocols going forward.  We are attempting to stay current with the guidance we receive from local and state health agencies on this topic.  In our building, these changes may have an effect on our approach to school work for quarantined students.  With previous quarantines for most students being up to 10 calendar days, our goal was to get school work to quarantined students within 24 hours of a teacher's notification of a student quarantine.  This afforded teachers time to get work together that was relevant to grade level curriculum that a student could reasonably complete during that time if they were feeling well.  With the new guidance, many quarantines will be shortened to 5 days, which may make larger amounts of quarantine homework impractical to prepare and complete in a timely manner.  Students may even be too ill while in these quarantines to even attempt their school work, so in some cases, we may take a revised approach to providing the student work in a way that makes sense for that student. It will still be our standard practice to provide work to students during the period of their quarantine, and families will be notified as soon as is practical about assignments for their child. As always, we appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we navigate these changes in a way that allows us to continue to support our students in a reasonable way.

Sincerely,
Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue
