Día de los Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, is a yearly festival celebrated by Mexico (and many others in Latin America) on November 1st and 2nd. Instead of a sad holiday, these days are full of happiness. They celebrate and honor loved ones who they have lost. They do this by dancing, eating and dressing up like skeletons. The biggest thing that they do is set up the ofrenda. An ofrenda is a table with pictures of the lost members of the family (pets included), candles, a towel, water, and of course, food!
We are telling you about this special tradition because Mrs. Cipperly's class is set up a Día de lost Muertos ofrenda. The class brought in items/pictures of loved ones who have passed away and the invitation was extended to teachers and staff in the elementary school.
