To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,
New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts assessments were administered to students this week. Students worked very hard to complete testing in grades 3-5, and I am sure our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are looking forward to resting and recharging this weekend! Information about the New York State Math assessments for the same grades will come out next week, as the tests will be after our April recess.
Our Kindergarten Parent Information Night was this past Wednesday, and we had a nice turnout for our in-person meeting in the district Auditorium - it felt like old times sharing this information with parents without masks and without trucks on Route 2 driving by as we met on the lawn. Families may register their incoming kindergartners at any time, but sooner than later is better for us for planning purposes. Kindergarten screenings will be in the second half of June, and pre-registration is required.
Earth Day 2022 is coming up this month, and this year’s theme is “Invest In Our Planet.” The Rensselaer County Environmental Management Council is conducting an Earth Day poster contest for Rensselaer County children. Poster submissions will be judged on how they portray Earth Day or an environmental issue; a clear message conveyed by the text and the artwork; and for creativity, originality and artistic quality. Participants must be residents of Rensselaer County, and winners will be chosen for K-2 and grades 3-6. Each contestant may only submit one poster with a maximum poster size of 22 inches by 30 inches. Poster entries must be submitted by April 29 to:
Rensselaer County Environmental Management Council
County Government Building
1600 7th Avenue
Troy, NY 12180
Poster entries must include name, address, school, grade, and contact information. Posters may also be dropped off at the address above or the Majority office of the County Legislature (located in the same building). 1st place winner receives a $50 gift card; 2nd place winner receives a $25 gift card. Questions should be directed to (518) 270-2888. Best of luck to any little Bengals who choose to participate!
Recess continues to be a guessing game - we will try to be outside for recess as much as possible. The weather can be unpredictable still, so please be sure that your child is dressed for the weather.
Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue
