To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope this update finds you well and anticipating the upcoming Spring recess.  I hope our families use this time for resting and recharging as we approach the home stretch.  We only have 8 weeks before we hit our end of the year events, for both us and the Secondary School.  Calendars get busy this time of year, so let me give you some dates to remember.

We return to classes on Monday, April 25th, and on the following day, Tuesday April 26th,  our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will begin the two-day New York State Math Assessments. Both assessments will be given in the morning, starting at 9 am both days; the fourth graders will swap their specials classes on these days with the kindergartners so they may begin their testing at 9am with everyone else.  Again, these tests are untimed, and students may have all morning and afternoon, if necessary, to complete the assessment.  I do insist that students take a break for lunch and recess during testing.  The second day of assessments will be Wednesday, with the same routine.  The 4th graders will participate in the NYS Science assessment, planned for early June, and this will be the final days of state assessments for our students.

Tamarac Elementary School is proud to announce the 2022 K-2 Concert on Friday, May 6th beginning at 10 am in the District Auditorium.  Families of students in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade are invited to attend, as this is our first K-2 concert since 2019.  The doors to the District auditorium lobby will open at 9:30am; please be respectful as high school classes will be in session at this time.  All students will be returning to the elementary school for the remainder of the school day once the concert is over - no students may be picked up after the concert.

BEEP has wrapped up for another year, and I would like to thank all the parents, teachers and community members who made this program such a success:  Josh Pulito, Jeanine Kaskoun, Julianne Messia, Lindsay Beraldi, Meg Bloomfield, Jillian Kuskar, Danielle O’Rourke, Brenda Lee Bliss-Rafferty, Jean Rebhun, Lauren Clemente, Christy Fortin, Carol Crucetti, Pam Skaarup, Sanada Bailey, Kandis Freer and Maureen King.  A special shout-out to Christy Fortin who did a wonderful job with coordinating this year's program, and to Cassaundra Ackner, who helped immensely with daily dismissal for the BEEPer's.

The Tamarac Secondary School Life Skills classroom has helped our elementary "lost and found" efforts by washing and drying all of the items left behind by students this year, photographing each item, and uploading it to a Tamarac Lost and Found website! If you know your child is missing something, please email mshslostandfound@brunswickorg and give a detailed description, your child's name and grade or feel free to check out the website.

Finally, although we have much more to do to finalize plans, Friday, June 10th will be the last regular school day for our pre-K students.  Thursday, June 16th will be the last regular school day for kindergartners and the day of the kindergarten Moving Up ceremony - again, more details to follow.  And, finally, Friday June 17th, which is a half-day for all students, will be the day of our 5th grade Moving Up ceremony.  At this time, our scheduled last day of regular school attendance will be Thursday, June 23rd, with all students being dismissed at the half-day mark.

Enjoy your Spring recess - we have a great weather day for the recess to begin.

Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue, Tamarac Elementary School Administration
