To the families of Tamarac Elementry School,
This morning, the Tamarac Elementary K-2 concert, featuring the music of the Beatles, took place before a packed house of family members in the district Auditorium for the first time in 3 years. Each grade performed 3 of the Beatles' classics before every student returned to the stage for an encore singing of Hey, Jude (one of my all-time favorites). I'd like to thank all of the family members who were able to join us this morning for what was a very festive occasion, thank Mr. Chris Siegenthaler who planned, trained and directed every step of this morning's concert, thanks to the K-2 classroom teachers and TA's who helped keep everything moving smoothly and safely, and finally, to all the performers who took us back in time, if just for a moment, with wonderful versions of many Beatles classics.
Student placements for the upcoming school year will be beginning in the next few weeks. While students and families look forward to which teacher their child will have next year, it is important to remember that placements are a grade level event, and that many, many things go into a student's placement for the following school year. Class makeup and composition is very important to us; the grade level teachers of a student's present grade spend quite a bit of time determining the best combinations of students for the next school year, weighing factors that we know can make or break a classroom. Our knowledge of all the students, along with input and insights from other teachers and providers, makes us uniquely qualified to make these determinations for classroom placements. Parents may feel free to share insights about their child or preferences for placements with teachers, but classroom placements will be made solely by the faculty and administration of this building. Once placements are made public (before the end of the school year), no requests for changes from parents or families will be made. Thank you for your understanding and support of this very important academic process.
A message from the Life Skills Classroom about the Lost and Found Clothing Project -- The Lost and Found project is going strong. We continue to tag clothing, winter coats, hats and gloves, water bottles, lunch boxes, and shoes. Our tagging numbers are reaching into the low 400’s. We have separated the MS/HS items and the elementary items into two separate slideshows on the website and we are currently working on creating another slideshow that will have just the hats/gloves/water bottles/lunch boxes and shoes. We realize that it is a daunting task going through the slides so feel free to email us if you are looking for a specific item. We are continuously checking the gyms, hallways, cafeterias for items that have been left behind and we even had two large bags brought over from the bus garage. On May 17th, we are hoping to be set up in the lobby near the voting in the MS/HS and also in the elementary school for the art show. This would also be a great time to check out our racks of clothing and other items. Any unclaimed items will be boxed up and donated to local charities in early June so we can make room for all the lost and found items next school year. A calendar change was made at last night's Board of Education meeting, with Friday, May 27th now being a vacation day for the whole school community. A change like this to the school calendar often occurs if we do not use emergency (i.e. snow) days during the school year.
Finally, please join me in formally welcoming Mrs. Onorato as the next principal of Tamarac Elementary School. Her appointment became official last night at the Board of Education meeting. I could not be happier for Mrs. Onorato, or for the whole school community, with her appointment. She will make an outstanding principal, and I look forward to seeing where Mrs. Onorato will lead this building in the future, because I know she is going to do wonderful things for everyone in our school community. The Tamarac educational community really got itself a winner in Mrs. Onorato.
