To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,
I hope this update finds you well - it has been a short, but busy, week here, highlighted with our new Nature on Wheels program, which debuted with our 5th graders yesterday. Nature on Wheels brought trainers to school, and spent the day in a series of outdoor-themed activities (team building, using a compass, plant identification, a nature hike, fire-building, etc) which was wrapped around a pizza lunch provided by the Brittonkill PTSA. The students stayed outside for the day - the weather cooperated nicely, and they got an experience that could not have happened in the classroom.
I'd like to reprint the end of the year calendar from last week - Our end of the year calendar has been updated, and our changes will affect our youngest learners. Pre-K and kindergarten students will now be in attendance until Thursday, June 23rd, as will all of our other students. Friday, June 17th and Thursday, June 23rd (our last day) are both half-days; we will begin dismissal at 11:25am on these days. Pre-K or kindergarten parents whose children attend Before or After Care may need to contact Carole G. to attend on these days, as your child may not be scheduled at this time.
Information on our preK, kindergarten and 5th grade Moving Up ceremonies will be coming home from the respective teachers soon, with details for the ceremonies. PreK will have their ceremony on Friday, June 10th; kindergarten on Thursday, June 16th and 5th grade on Friday, June 17th. Students may leave with their families at the end of each ceremony for the day, but please see the paragraph above about the last days of student attendance.
Even though the end of the school year is in sight, we are still following all of our typical schedules for lunches, recesses and all classes. Keep packing snacks and water bottles, suggest appropriate clothing and footwear for gym days, and a raincoat is never a bad idea on overcast days. We will keep you up to date on the activities happening around here, right to the end. Enjoy the upcoming weekend.
Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue
