On Tuesday, June 9, 2020 the Brunswick CSD community will vote on a proposed
$26,174,840 budget for the 2020-21 school year. The budget carries a tax levy
increase of 2.99%. This is the ninth consecutive year the budget remains below
the maximum tax levy cap.
The 2020-21 budget continues to support a full range of academic programs,
services, sports and extracurricular activities for students in PreK-12 including:
small class sizes, an emphasis on literacy in the elementary school, Advanced
Placement and Honors classes, college credit courses in math, science, english,
history, marketing, broadcasting, and more!
The budget is up a total of $743,220, a 2.9% increase from the current budget,
due to rising costs related to increases in contractual salaries and health insurance,
an increase in costs associated with special education services and increased
student enrollment in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs.
“Despite increases in costs, we balanced all decisions on the thoughts of what
is best for our students with what is most feasible to our tax payers. Our goal is
for every student to graduate from high school prepared to transition successfully
to college, trades or employment,” said Superintendent Dr. Angelina Maloney.
We truly believe there is no one-size-fits-all solution for student learning, and
we strive to provide meaningful and engaging opportunities for ALL students! The
proposed budget helps prepare students for their futures in a variety of ways,
including: supporting a multitude of different educational pathways that enable
students to explore potential careers and gain valuable hands-on work experience
before graduation, continuing high quality music and art programs, creating social-emotional learning initiatives to guide our students and community, and supporting students with disabilities.
The budget also approves the district purchasing one 66-passenger
bus, one 34-passenger bus and one 30-passenger bus as part of the district’s bus purchase program. The district is reimbursed with 71% state aid for the bus purchases. A Capital Outlay Project of $100,000 is also included to address facility needs. Voting this year will be held by absentee ballot. Absentee ballots will be sent to all qualified voters of the district. All absentee ballots must be returned via the prepaid envelope by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.
