Dear Secondary School Families:
Happy snowy Friday (it’s way too early to be saying this in my opinion)! This school year continues to present many unpredictable twists and turns. Adversity strengthens our willpower and determination as we learn and grow together. Rest assured, we are laser focused on health and safety as we continually strive to provide the best education possible to your child. Thank you for your help in getting us through a very challenging week - we know that shifting on a dime is not easy on families and caregivers. After the pause, we are set to reopen on Monday and welcome the Blue Cohort back - we miss you! A reminder that this weekend is Halloween. It’s also the end of daylight savings time. Don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour on Saturday and follow all guidelines if you venture out and about. Please help make it a safe and fun weekend all!
Quarter 1 Ends November 6: A reminder that the first marking period is drawing to a close. Please continue to check the portal to monitor your child’s progress and encourage them to reach out to their teachers if they are behind on work or need help with anything. A final push before the quarter closes can make a huge difference! If your child is struggling, do not hesitate to reach out to individual teachers with questions regarding areas in need of improvement, availability for support, etc...Our teachers meet daily and counselors are happy to organize a virtual parent conference with the teams in grades 6-9!
Armed Services Confidentiality: Attention all 11th and 12th grade parents. If you wish to have your child’s name removed from a list for armed service recruitment, please fill out the attached form and return to school (mail, fax, or email to Ldahl@brunswickcsd.org by Friday, November 6).
Armed Services Confidentiality Agreement
Academic Support - Quarter 1: The first marking period ends on November 6. If you have not done so, please check the parent portal to review your child’s progress for the first quarter. There are still two full weeks in the marking period and time for students to seek help and improve. We recognize these are very challenging times - you are not alone in supporting your child’s academic success! If your son/daughter is struggling, do not hesitate to reach out to individual teachers with questions regarding areas in need of improvement, availability for support, etc...Our teachers meet daily and counselors are happy to organize a virtual parent conference with the teams in grades 6-9!
Attendance: Did you know that by 9th grade students attendance records are a better indicator of their dropout risk than their 8th grade test scores? Regular attendance is extremely important and a legal requirement. It is also an essential life skill that needs reinforcement. This year there are greater challenges than ever before in the area of attendance. Please help us by making sure your child is well-rested and ready to learn every morning at 7:30 a.m. This is especially important for our remote learners who have the same academic expectations and legal requirements and as their in-person peers. Together, we can take an important step toward student achievement!
Tuesday, November 3: A final reminder that the Secondary School will be used as a community polling location on election day. As a result, all students will be virtual - teachers will be providing a full day of classroom instruction on the regular bell schedule (homeroom attendance begins at 7:30 a.m.).
Health/Wellness:: Please be sure to complete the daily screening survey before sending your child to school each morning. Your child should be kept home if they are experiencing any symptoms consistent with COVID. If your child’s symptoms are improving AND they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine, they may return to school with a note from their doctor with an alternate diagnosis clearing them to return to school OR a copy of their negative COVID test result. We appreciate your help in keeping our school safe for everyone!
