Dear Secondary School Families:

Happy Friday! Fun fact, June is named after Juno, the queen of the Roman Gods. Perhaps it was the Roman God Juniper who is to blame for all the nastiness over the Memorial Day weekend. I really regret saying we needed the rain about a week ago! Thankfully, the weekend looks to be dry (but very hot).  Please remember those water bottles as the temperatures crank up. The arrival of June means that we are getting very close to summer. Finishing the year strong is important as we eagerly anticipate everyone being back in the building in the fall (hopefully). We want every child to hit the ground running come September! Our students have worked hard and overcome tremendous challenges - now it’s time to finish the job. It should be a very fun and exciting final three weeks. Thank you for all you continue to do to support at home!

Arts in Education: We are very excited to announce that on Friday, June 11 our 6th students will have two special assemblies. Rona Leventhal is a Teaching Artist who will present “Rona Tales.” This storyteller workshop will challenge students to think and engage the minds and body through improv movement and theater. The second presentation is called  “Birds of Prey.” Students will see live birds of prey up-close, learn about their habitats, rehabilitation and much more. Thank you to Ms. Findlay and the Arts Department for organizing these opportunities for our students!

Tamarac Times: Students in Ms. Michael’s 10th ELA classes have spent a lot of time honing their writing skills this year. The Tamarac Times is a brand new publication that showcases students' writing for the broader school community to see. There are many powerful and moving pieces included in this publication. Ms. Michael’s hopes to expand this opportunity even further in the future. We hope you will enjoy the first ever publication. Kudos to all of our extremely talented student-writers included here!

Science 8 Testing: A reminder that 8th grade students will be taking the NYS Science assessment on Monday.  The exam has been reduced to one day and will take about two hour to complete. Any fully remote students who wish to participate should notify Mr. Medved asap to make arrangements. After testing on Monday, there will be a field day event for 8th graders who are in the building. Thank you to our parents and guardians for all of your support with all three of the 3-8 assessments this spring.

Seniors vs. Faculty Kickball: On Friday, June 11 at 1:15 pm some of the Secondary faculty will be taking on the senior class in a game of kickball. To make things even more fun, Mr. White and I are presenting the seniors with a little challenge that we hope some of them will accept. If the seniors lose, they have to go a whole school day without a cell phone. Is this even possible??? If we lose, Mr. White and I will accept what comes our way. It should be fun - there will be plenty of ice on hand for faculty after!

Health/Wellness: **IMPORTANT** Please be sure to complete the daily screening survey before sending your child to school each morning. Your child should be kept home if they are experiencing any symptoms consistent with COVID. If your child’s symptoms are improving AND they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine, they may return to school with a note from their doctor with an alternate diagnosis clearing them to return to school OR a copy of their negative COVID test result. We appreciate your help in keeping our school safe for everyone!
