Emerald City

Dear Secondary School Families:

It’s been a very “spirited” week of fun at the Secondary school. Door decorating contests, pumpkin painting, and Halloween dress up! It’s truly wonderful having our students and staff participating in the traditional activities that one would expect to see occurring in late October. While this year may not be completely normal, we’ve been making some big strides in the right direction. A reminder that November will be here on Monday, the final week of daylight saving time, and the last five days of the first marking period. It is an important time for students who have been absent or have fallen behind on work to check in with their teachers and complete missing assignments. Please reach out to team leaders (grades 6-9) or your child’s teachers if you have any questions. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this weekend, especially for Halloween. If you are venturing out on Sunday please take your time on the roads and be safe!

Halloween Door Decorating:

Character Education: Our newly revised Character Education program is off to a great start!  Students are recognized by staff for demonstrating one of the five tenets - respectful, responsible, honesty, social intelligence, and citizenship.  Owen Hains (6th) earned a very special prize when his name was pulled for this month's character drawing. Congratulations to all of our Bengal Character Award recipients for the month of October!

Russell Sage Community Partnership: Last June, Brunswick CSD and Russell Sage students formed a partnership to mentor k-12 students.  Sage undergraduates, across all majors, are required to take Innovating to Impact: Your Engagement with the Community. The course focuses on social emotional learning (SEL) with a service component.  This semester eight undergraduates have been working with Ms. Michaels English 10 and English 12 students assisting high school learners with reading literature and writing.  In addition, Sage volunteers have been designing and sharing writing prompts with the students that support  social emotional learning. A special shout out to Vinny Pruchnick, Bridget Hamilton, Rajshree Paramanand, Valentina Savoia, Alisa James Polite, Joe DeGeorgio, Nan'C Santos & Anita Arjoon for the positive impact they had on our Tamarac students in the short time they have with us!
