Dear Secondary School Families:

Happy Homecoming Friday! This evening's homecoming football game will feature the Wildcats vs. rival Mechanicville at 7pm. There will be senior recognition, homecoming court, and a fireworks show at halftime and immediately following the game. The fire department will be on site; given the size of our campus and ongoing construction, we could use your help with parking - kindly consider carpooling if possible. The homecoming dance is on Saturday from 6:00-9:00pm in the high school gym. Enjoy the weekend - Go Wildcats tonight!

Safety Update: On Tuesday our Elementary and Secondary buildings worked in collaboration with NY State Police and Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office to complete the first of four mandated lock down drills. These drills provide us with helpful feedback as we continually seek to review and improve our safety protocols.

Sneaker Drive Fundraiser: Brittonkill PTSA is holding an athletic shoe drive fundraiser to raise money for Tamarac Secondary Students. BPTSA will earn funds based on the total quantity of gently worn, used, and new sneakers collected. GotSneakers, a social enterprise, will issue funds in compensation for the collected sneakers. Those funds will benefit our students in various ways (Citizenship Awards, Hospitality at Programs, Class Incentives). Anyone can help by simply donating gently worn, used, and new sneakers.

GotSneakers has developed a unique fundraising program that asks communities to reach into their closets, not their pockets! The sneaker recycling program helps keep sneakers out of landfills, which has harmful effects on our environment, and helps organizations like ours raise much needed funds. The program is truly a win – win! Learn more about GotSneakers by visiting their website at www.gotsneakers.com.  We kindly ask you not to send any non-athletic footwear including but not limited to dress shoes, heels, rain boots, sandals, slip-ons, water socks, wedges, and work boots of any kind.

“We are excited about our sneaker drive fundraiser,” said Lori Lewis, BPTSA Vice President.

“We know that most people have extra sneakers in their closets they would like to donate rather than throw away. By doing so, we raise money for our students and help the environment. It’s a win – win for everyone!”

To make your donation simply bring in your gently used sneakers to the secondary office starting Monday, 10/24/22.  Look for the sneaker box and drop them in!

Blood Drive: The Key Club will be hosting a Blood Drive on October 28. All students and adults who would like to participate and donate blood can register using the following link:

Students who are 16 who want to donate need to fill out a permission form which can be picked up from Ms. Labshere and brought directly to the blood drive. Students age 17 or older do not need to complete a permission form.

Spirit Wear: The PTSA has launched a spirit wear store for our students and families (one for Elementary, and one for Secondary). Secondary School students and families can shop here: https://1stplacespiritwear.com/schools/NY/Troy/Tamarac+High+School

Halloween Guidelines: Please take a few moments to review the guidelines for Halloween with your child. We want to ensure a safe and fun event for all on Monday, October 31.

School Picture Make Ups: Adirondack School Portraits will be returning for make ups on Monday, December 5. Any 6-12 student in need may get their picture taken during lunch periods (10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.).

Tamarac Middle School Food Drive: We are kicking off our annual Tamarac Food Drive to support the Brunswick Cares Community Food Pantry. Please bring items in and give them to your Homeroom teacher. It is important to check expiration dates! Suitable items are canned veggies, canned or dry pastas, cold cereals etc. Please do not break-up the cartons of fruit in plastic cups. It makes it difficult for the pantry to store. This will run through October 28th. The homerooms that bring in the most food items in each grade level will participate in a make your own sundae Ice Cream Social on Thursday November 10th in the HS Cafeteria.

Sincerely,

Ken Rizzo
