Dear Secondary School Families:
Welcome November (or should I say May?)! We are closing out the first marking period with some absolutely spectacular weather. Grades will be posted on the parent portal next Friday (11/11) by noon. A reminder that our clocks fall back one hour this weekend. We have a short but very busy week ahead. Some quick reminders for families regarding the week ahead:
Tuesday, November 8: Election Day & Staff Development - Half day of school for students (10:32am Secondary dismissal).
Thursday, November 10: Emergency Go Home Early Drill (2:00 pm Secondary dismissal).
Friday, November 11: Veterans Day (No School) Thank you to all of the men and women who have served to protect our freedom!
National Jr. Honor Society: The 2022 NJHS induction ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 9 at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium. The program will also be live streamed and recorded (link to follow). Following the ceremony we have a reception for our newest honorees. Congratulations to the twenty-two newest inductees from the class of 2027! With materials on backorder, auditorium renovations continue to be a work in progress. We do not want to keep moving around dates for our students and their families. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we do our very best to get things ready for Wednesday.
Bengal Awards: Congratulations to all of our October Bengal Award recipients! Students are nominated by teachers for being respectful, responsible, honest, demonstrating social intelligence, and outstanding citizenship. Addie Bryson earned a special recognition in our monthly character drawing!
From the Counseling Center: On Tuesday 10th graders will learn about their options for Career Tech next year. Counselors will be meeting with students in small groups. Please reach out to your child’s counselor if you have any questions about Career Tech opportunities for your child. You may also find helpful information on Robert H. Sneaker Drive Fundraiser: A reminder that the Brittonkill PTSA is holding an athletic shoe drive fundraiser to raise money for Tamarac Secondary Students. BPTSA will earn funds based on the total quantity of gently worn, used, and new sneakers collected. GotSneakers, a social enterprise, will issue funds in compensation for the collected sneakers. We kindly ask you not to send any non-athletic footwear including but not limited to dress shoes, heels, rain boots, sandals, slip-ons, water socks, wedges, and work boots of any kind. To make your donation simply bring in your gently used sneakers to the secondary office. Look for the sneaker box and drop them in!
